Bob was born in Western Massachusetts. One of four children, Bob’s dad was the local high school principal and his mom, a homemaker. He was an outstanding high school athlete and was drafted by the Montreal Expos. He chose to attend college at Columbia University where he majored in English and played both football and baseball.

After graduating from Columbia in 1975, he was offered a unique opportunity by a family acquaintance, Gene Schnell, to move to Escondido, California and learn the avocado business. The Schnell Family at that time was one of the largest avocado growers in California. Bob had the good fortune to be mentored by Warren and Gil Henry of Henry Avocado and Bill Frey of Frey Nursery, where he learned the business from the “ground up.” He developed and managed close to 1800 acres in the late 70’s and early 80’s.
In the late 80’s, Bob switched gears and entered the marketing/sales part of the avocado industry. In 1989 he partnered with Bob Siemer and Rueben Hofshi to buy Del rey Avocado Company. Bob’s responsibilities include the sales and marketing of fruit from California, Mexico, Chile and Peru. He has served several terms as director of the California Avocado Commission (CAC) and is presently chairman of CAC’s marketing committee. He also serves on the Chilean Avocado Importer Association’s (CAIA) Board of Directors.
Bob is very active in the Fallbrook Community. He served several terms on the Fallbrook Hospital Board of Directors and is presently serving on the Rainbow Water District Board of Directors. Bob and his wife, Susan, live in Fallbrook and have had the pleasure of raising their 3 children in the “Avocado Capital of the World.”

Patrick has been around avocados for as long as he can remember, from taking ATV rides through avocado groves with his dad when he was a toddler; to working on the packing house stack line all through High School.

After playing baseball and graduating from the University of San Diego, he followed his passion for baseball into the Minor Leagues for one season, pitching for the St. Paul Saints in St Paul, Minnesota. After the experience of playing “professional baseball”, Patrick came to the conclusion that he would better serve himself and his family pursuing his other passion, pitching avocados!
Patrick joined Del Rey Avocado in the summer of 2005, focusing on sales. Wanting to carve his own niche at Del Rey, he expanded the Del Rey Farms Organic program with Jessica Hunter. He enjoys working with his father and brother as well as all the people in the avocado industry. Currently, he lives in Fallbrook with his wife Amanda, his daughter Addison, and his two sons Easton and Brooks.
Patrick’s favorite way to have an avocado is sliced over carne asada tacos with Cholula hot sauce.

Donny has been part of the sales and procurement team at Del Rey Avocado since 2010. After eight years of playing professional baseball for the Chicago White Sox, Donny has decided to channel his energies towards the avocado industry. He will join the Del Rey team with two years of part time sales experience and will focus primarily on the east coast region.

The challenges of playing professional baseball the last 8 years have uniquely qualified Donny to handle whatever challenges lay ahead in the avocado world. Furthermore, having grown up in and around the avocado industry, he brings with him a solid knowledge of avocados as well as an eagerness to learn more as he moves forward at Del Rey.
Prior to playing for the White Sox and working at Del Rey, Donny grew up in Fallbrook under the watchful eye of his Mom and Dad, with siblings, Patrick and Hannah. He graduated from Fallbrook High School and accepted a scholarship to play baseball at Stanford University. At Stanford, Donny majored in Political Science and graduated with a degree after four years of study. He is an active member in the Stanford Alumni community.
On November, 17th 2007 Donny married his wife Kourtney. They live in Fallbrook along with their four children, Teague, June, Rory, and Cavan. When not talking avocados, Donny enjoys golf with his brother Patrick as well as surfing, music, and playing in the yard with his children.

Having grown up in Fallbrook, Josh was familiar with two things, Bob Lucy and avocados. Josh went from having Bob Lucy as a coach throwing him batting practice to Bob Lucy as a boss teaching him the avocado industry.

Josh went to school at Arizona State University and after graduating he quickly decided to leave the desert and heat behind, moving back to his hometown of Fallbrook, California.
Josh is a huge consumer of avocados so he jumped at the chance to join the sales team at Del Rey Avocado. He enjoys learning all the different aspects of the industry and the chance to grow with a great team. He currently lives in Fallbrook with his wife Deandra, and their newest addition to the family and first child, Hudson Joshua Underseth.
If he’s not busy eating avocados, Josh can be found golfing, deep sea fishing, camping, cooking and traveling the world looking for even more ways to enjoy avocados!

Marco leads the San Antonio office for Del Rey. He brings over eight years’ experience in the truck brokerage industry.
Marco was born in Monterrey, Mexico and moved to San Antonio at the age of six. His love for avocados started at a very young age thanks to his mother’s deep passion for cooking authentic Mexican dishes.

Marco has been consuming avocados since he can remember and is proud to be part of a company that is responsible for bringing the joy of eating avocados to kitchen and restaurant tables across the country. Marco received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Criminal Justice from Sam Houston State with a minor in Spanish.
Marco is a sports enthusiast specifically when it comes to college football. If he isn’t enjoying a game, he is spending time with his family that all reside in San Antonio.

Joseph has been in the avocado commodity since June 2004 when he started ripening avocados in Oxnard, CA. He moved into the sales part of the business in 2005.
Joseph played baseball at California Lutheran University and earned a 2nd Team All-American award as a 2nd baseman his senior year.

After graduating, Joseph began to teach 6th grade math and coach baseball.
In 2004 an opportunity to change careers and begin a journey into the avocado world was presented to him and he ran with the opportunity.
Joseph joined the Del Rey family in early 2016 with the expectation of helping to grow and develop new business.

Caitlin is the newest member of Del Rey’s Sales Team and is thrilled to be a part of such a knowledgeable group. She joins us with 5 years of experience, working closely with California avocado growers as a Field Representative. Working directly with the grower gives Caitlin a strong foundation and understanding of the product.

During her tenure as a Field Representative, Caitlin also coached growers through their Primus GFSI audits. She worked hand in hand with the growers, walking them through every step of the audit, to help them provide the safest product to the end user and achieve continual improvements in their growing operations.
She has embraced this transition into the world of avocado sales and eager to learn more as she advances her career at Del Rey.
In her free time, Caitlin enjoys spending quality time with her young family. She has one baby boy who is just under a year old and of course his first food was a mashed-up California avocado. Caitlin fits the millennial stereotype in that her favorite way to enjoy avocados is none other than “Avocado Toast”.

I grew up in Fallbrook, CA and attended Fallbrook High School. Throughout high school I played tennis and did track and field. I earned my Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration, with an emphasis in Marketing from San Diego State University. Upon graduating, I started my career in produce with an opportunity in sales and procurement, handling a variety of commodities. I became instantly intrigued and fascinated with every facet within the produce industry.

Growing up in Fallbrook and being surrounded by avocado groves of friends and family, it was an easy decision to direct my focus to avocados. I have been grateful to have worked with industry leaders and veterans that helped me build a solid foundation in produce and especially in the avocado category.
